35th Annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival – Cary, NC. August 27, 2011
Every year on the fourth Saturday in August, an estimated 60,000 people travel to downtown Cary to enjoy the handiwork of the best artists and craftsmen in the country. The festival also features entertainment on two stages, a variety of food, and civic group exhibits.
The event planners have requested our role for 60 people to lead and serve as Public Information Hosts. We will facilitate the Lazy Daze information Center and have individual volunteers roaming the festival area. Volunteers are asked to serve for one two-hour shift or more. This will be a fun event to mingle in the crowd and serve as ambassadors for the Town of Cary.
Contact Jon Heath at jonh@hopenc.org or 919 303-4673 for more information and scheduling.

Christian Life Home of Raleigh:CLH provides a loving family home for women ages 10-23 in-unplanned pregnancy to receive care, counseling and life skills training. Our assistance to the CLH provides a wide variety of needs. Volunteers can help by coordinating groups to collect canned goods, paper goods and food, or do yard work or household projects. Plumbers, electricians, carpet cleaners, painters and laborers are all needed to help maintain our homes. Volunteers can teach the girls how to bake, sew, knit, cook, decorate, or make a craft. Individuals who have experience, spiritual maturity and good interpersonal skills make excellent teachers for the classes we offer at the Christian Life Home. These classes offer essential teaching and encouragement to the young women. Classes are held one night a week and last for one to two hours. Volunteer service opportunities include: yard/house maintenance, teaching how to bake, sew, knit, cook, decorate, or make crafts. Volunteers needed varies per date and house summer schedule. Prior to visiting the home, volunteers need to submit volunteer application, signed confidentiality statement, and background check information.

Inner-Faith Food Shuttle: is a private, nonprofit, hunger relief organization --- a nontraditional food bank.  IFFS is different from traditional food banks in that we focus on the recovery of perishable foods.
Beginning 22 years ago with 2 soccer moms, who remains active with the Shuttle, were eating in a fast food restaurant when they noticed the woman behind the counter discarding perfectly good breakfast sandwiches. When they asked why, the manager told them that he had to make room for the lunch items. Believing that good food does not belong in our landfills as long as people go hungry, they convinced him to give the sandwiches to them, loaded them into Jill’s station wagon and drove them to the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen in downtown Raleigh. As a result the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle was born! The first year IFFS began, over 6 hundred pounds was delivered in the community. In comparison, last year IFFS moved over 6.5 million pounds
For volunteer groups, we offer: GROCERY BAG PREP: Groups in this program make and deliver grocery bags to low-income seniors or families.  We set the group up in a production line giving them everything they need: produce, snacks and bags. IFFS provides volunteers with maps and directions, while using their own vehicles; they can deliver resource bags directly to the people who’ll be using them.  The entire group goes to one location, and even delivers door-to-door. This service usually takes about 2 hours from start to finish. We have to limit the size of groups to around 15 people providing this activity Tuesday through Thursday at 10:30am or 1:30pm and on some Saturdays at varying times.
